9. The maximum number of characters we are going to allow our members for the time being is 5 characters. As the roleplay begins and develops, you can have 3 characters and then gain more as it goes along. To be more specific, we’ll allow two original characters and the option for one adopted character. Your last two slots will be reserved for kits or future adopts that will be released further into the roleplay!10. Members will be limited to one clan for the time being. If your character is going to do something that could have consequences, please talk to a mod for approval. Other things like gore in battle or in roleplay will be spoilered and a warning must be placed beforehand.16. **Overview
**

The three main clans of COTEI consist of Knollclan, Cloverclan, and Lochclan. Each clan have personal traditions and variety, giving every member a unique experience. The clans are based in Ireland, specifically close to the coast near an old fishing town. Their territory is grassy and full of life, further inland where the nature is plentiful.

Clans

Knollclan

Hawthornstar (UFA) + Deputy + Healer(s) + HollowscreechIn a territory full of grassy hills and forests, lies the camp of Knollclan. They live where three tall hills meet, surrounded by a circle of trees that provide them protection from environmental dangers. These cats have their dens within the roots and undergrowth surrounding them. The forest canopy gives them protection from the weather, as well. Though many Knollclan cats will not shy away from getting wet from rain. They also enjoy the way the moonlight peers into their camp and shines onto their altar.Their altar is an old stone well that does not run deep. Cats put their offerings to Starclan into the well for good fortune and blessings.A Knollclan cat is known for being down-to-earth, and humble. They are cats of simple pleasures, believing that they were put on this world to thrive and live life to the fullest. These cats come in all shapes and sizes, but many have strong legs for climbing the hills.Knollclan cats are not frightened by something created by a twoleg. Many abandoned twoleg monsters or tracks have been overtaken by nature in their territory. Sometimes patrols may use these deceased monsters for shelter during bad weather. They are the most traditional in terms of naming, but they are open to ideas. Kittypets and loners are welcome to explain new words to them, as they have a love of knowledge outside of their clan.

Knollclan Roles

LeaderThe leader of Knollclan is a singular cat that has risen through the ranks, having been a warrior, then deputy. This is a lifelong position, and the leader will not stop being leader until they have either died, stepped down, or been overthrown. They are encouraged to speak with their fellow high ranks before making decisions. Leaders will have duties such as making announcements, naming warriors, and assigning apprentices to their mentors.DeputyThe deputy of Knollclan is a singular cat that will become leader once the previous one steps down for any reason. They are meant to be supportive of their leader and provide assistance when needed. Deputies will have duties such as arranging patrols, checking on apprentices and the elders.HealersIt is common for any of the three clans to have up to two healers. They have a variety of duties and may split them up depending on which healer is good at what. Such responsibilities include healing wounded clanmates, helping the sick, collecting herbs, and maintaining the clan’s altar. They also help Monarchs that are to have kits. Healers are not required to be very spiritual as Starclan will send prophecies to both them and the Undertaker.Healers of all clans will meet every halfmoon at the Sacred Cave.UndertakerThe Undertaker of Knollclan is a singular cat that is meant to serve under the will of Shade’s Wing. Shade’s Wing is what the clans view as their “grim reaper”. The Undertaker is tasked with duties such as burying and tallying the dead, keeping track of the ways of death and detecting any potential territory-wide threats.Undertakers are expected to take an apprentice at 100 moons old. Typically, this'll be a cat who is already a warrior as to not overwhelm a younger cat. They're referred to as "Undertakers in training".Due to depictions of Shade’s Wing being that of an all black molly with wings, black cats are typically recommended for the role of the Undertaker. This is not a required trait, legends simply believe an all-black cat has received Starclan’s “blessing” and will thrive in the role.Undertakers of all clans will meet every new moon at the Stone Garden.WarriorsWarriors of Knollclan are tasked with the typical responsibilities of a warrior, such as hunting, patrolling, fighting and guarding their clan territory. Knollclan cats are not conflict-avoidant, more than able to defend their clan from threats. Warriors are expected to have a vague knowledge of herbs to assist their healers. New warriors are to rest at the top of the highest hill on their first night.Warriors of Knollclan will go on "finding" patrols, sent out to search for lost twoleg items and bring it back to camp. Elders appraise the items and will help Warriors find a use for them inside the clan.MonarchsThe Monarchs of Knollclan are cats that are expecting or nursing kits. They are treated with respect as they are bringing in a new generation and are checked in on by the deputy. No matter if it is their kit, they are expected to take care of all the nursery while they are staying there.ApprenticesAn Apprentice of Knollclan is any cat above the age of six moons that is training for a higher role. They may be training to become a Warrior or Healer.EldersThe Elders of Knollclan are highly respected individuals. Often spoken to for their wisdom, the Elders are the ones that share the stories of cats such as Palelight or any other revered Starclan cat. Elders appraise twoleg items found on "finding" patrols. They eat from the prey pile first and will babysit kits when a monarch needs a moment away. The Undertaker is expected to spend the last days of an Elder’s life with them, so they properly guided into Starclan’s care.

Knollclan Extras

Knollclan believes in Starclan in a very "casual" way. While not secular at all, they believe that simply living and thriving is the best way to take advantage of what Starclan has given them. Offerings of food are more common to leave compared to other objects.Knollclan does, however, believe very deeply in the moon. They believe that on the first night as a warrior, you are to rest at the top of the highest knoll and feel the closest to the moon. Moonlight will beam onto the leader's den/spot when it is in the middle of the night sky. If the moon is ever covered during a leader's announcements, the clan members might gossip that Starclan is rejecting their choice.All-white cats are considered good luck in Knollclan.Knollclan is known for having cats that are so important historically, they’ve been venerated to the point of making them mythical legends. Palelight is one of Knollclan's "legendary" cats. An all-white Undertaker that was said to be like if moonlight itself was made into a cat. She was graceful and mysterious, a molly who helped Knollclan thrive. Two other legendary cats are Falconstar and Dawnchaser.Other clan cats might think Knollclan cats can be a bit too simplistic, but a Knollclan cat is just happy to have a warm place to sleep and a full belly. They take care of their clan with their whole heart.

Cloverclan

Dandelionstar (UFA) + Deputy + Healer(s) + Ragwortpatch (UFA)In large plains, surrounded by beautiful fields of flowers, lies the camp of Cloverclan. They live at the edge of their territory, in a ring of colorful flora that they use in traditions almost daily. Most of their camp dens are made up of bushes and tall grass, with some shallow tunnels as well. Cloverclan tunnels do not run deep due to the rainy nature of Ireland, but they have worked around protecting themselves from the weather. Their camp does not provide much protection from larger predators, but you must be skilled to catch a Cloverclan cat.The sunset will cast a beautiful orange over the camp, sundown being a Cloverclan cat’s favorite time of day. They will often tell stories at this time, or sing songs.Their altar to Starclan is a circle of toadstools and daisies. The only cats allowed to step a paw inside the ring are Healers and the Leader.Cloverclan cats are flamboyant, dramatic, and colorful. They value theatrics and storytelling, even having a role for those who sing and bring entertainment to the clan. Solid colored pelts are rare in the clan. They are typically lithe and long, made for running across their territory’s plains. Some cats in Cloverclan can get more muscular, or even soft like a kittypet. The Cloverclan cats are skittish around twolegs, despite being the closest to the fishing village. They believe twolegs to be heartless and dangerous. They are the most welcome to kittypets joining their clan because of this, wishing to rescue their fellow cats from such a torturous life. They are also the most conflict-avoidant, much more inclined to discuss issues diplomatically than with battle. However, Cloverclan cats are also very clever and are keen on tricking their opponents if need be.Names inspired by their flora are the most common, but they do not have a strict naming system. Kittypets that join this clan may often keep their names.

Cloverclan Roles

LeaderThe leader of Cloverclan is a singular cat that has risen through the ranks, having been a warrior, then deputy. This is a lifelong position, and the leader will not stop being leader until they have either died, stepped down, or been overthrown. Leaders will have duties such as making announcements, naming warriors, and assigning apprentices to their mentors. The Leader of Cloverclan is often encouraged to adorn clovers in their fur.DeputyThe deputy of Cloverclan is a singular cat that will become leader once the previous one steps down for any reason. They are meant to be supportive of their leader and provide assistance when needed. Deputies will have duties such as arranging patrols, checking on apprentices and the elders. They will often be the one that picks the clovers for apprentice ceremonies and for the leader.HealersIt is common for any of the three clans to have up to two healers. They have a variety of duties and may split them up depending on which healer is good at what. Such responsibilities include healing wounded clanmates, helping the sick, collecting herbs, and maintaining the clan’s altar. They also help Monarchs that are to have kits. Healers are not required to be very spiritual as Starclan will send prophecies to both them and the Undertaker.Healers of all clans will meet every halfmoon at the Sacred Cave.UndertakerThe Undertaker of Cloverclan is a singular cat that is meant to serve under the will of Shade’s Wing. This is not a required trait, legends simply believe an all-black cat has received Starclan’s “blessing” and will thrive in the role. Given that black cats are very rare in Cloverclan, if you are born as one, they will push very hard towards the role for the cat in question.Undertakers of all clans will meet every new moon at the Stone Garden.StorytellersA unique role to Cloverclan, storytellers are meant to sing and entertain their clan. There may be up to 2 storytellers at any given time. Storytellers must have been a warrior for at least 10 moons before becoming a storyteller, the experience often given the cats stories to work with. Storytellers may fulfill any duty that a warrior does, such as hunting, fighting and patrolling. At least one Storyteller must be present during a gathering. Storytellers collect the flowers that adorn Monarchs and Elders.WarriorsWarriors of Cloverclan are tasked with the typical responsibilities of a warrior, such as hunting, patrolling, fighting and guarding their clan territory. Warriors are expected to have a vague knowledge of herbs to assist their healers. Cloverclan’s warriors know how to fight, but many will try to outsmart a predator or opposing clan before they bring their claws out.MonarchsThe Monarchs of Cloverclan are cats that are expecting or nursing kits. They are treated with respect as they are bringing in a new generation and are checked in on by the deputy. No matter if it is their kit, they are expected to take care of all the nursery while they are staying there. Flowers are plentiful in the Nursery, usually left by Storytellers. Kits can often be seen putting the flowers in the Monarch’s fur.ApprenticesAn Apprentice of Cloverclan is any cat above the age of six moons that is training for a higher role. They may be training to become a Warrior or Healer. There are no Storyteller apprentices, as they must have been a Warrior first. Apprentices are welcome to plan ahead with the goal of becoming a Storyteller however!EldersThe Elders of Cloverclan are any retired Warrior, Storyteller, or Monarch. They are treated with deep respect, their wisdom greatly appreciated by all in the clan. They eat from the prey pile first and will babysit kits when a monarch needs a moment away. The Undertaker is expected to spend the last days of an Elder’s life with them, so they are properly guided into Starclan’s care. When it is an Elder’s time, they will be covered in flowers as the clan sings. When they are fully buried by the Undertaker, they are considered to be safe with Starclan.

Cloverclan Extras

Cloverclan is the most secular of the clans. Their worship is much more based in spells (bundles of herbs placed around the clan), divination and personal practices. Starclan is simply a place for them to rest once they pass away. They will still remain respectful and give offerings to their altar, but their connection with Starclan is not nearly as personal as they other clans.Cloverclan will practice divination by picking flower petals, similar to “Love me, love me not”. If the outcome is unfavorable, placing the picked petals into your nest is meant to give you resilience towards the potential future. This tradition is as old as the clan itself, and some proud cats may say they came from the greatest flower oracles in the clan.As Cloverclan’s territory is the most surrounded by the thunderpath, they are the most skilled at crossing it. There is also a part of the thunderpath they will call the path of Lost Souls. It is an infamous spot where twolegs abandon kits and kittypets they have no interest in anymore. Cloverclan patrols check this spot daily, always willing to bring in the lost cats and give them a home. The more colorful a cat is, the luckier they seem. Calicos and tortoiseshells are especially loved in Cloverclan. When two cats in Cloverclan decide to become mates, the clan celebrates them accordingly. They crush up flowers to make colorful pigments, allowing the couple to decorate each other’s fur. When apprentices are assigned a mentor, they will be given a crown of clovers to wear on their first night of their apprenticeship. After the first night, they leave the crown in their nest for good fortune. The other clans aren’t usually sure what to make of a Cloverclan cat. Knollclan may find them confusing, while Lochclan cats can find them loud and annoying.

Lochclan

Basilstar + Bigs + Fallingfeather, + WolfhowlThrough dense woods and rivers, you will find the camp of Lochclan. They live on a small land between many rivers, the trees sparse around their camp in particular. Their camp dens are mainly in rocks, the shelter sturdy against any sort of rising tide. Lochclan cats are excellent swimmers, even managing to keep themselves afloat during storms. The water surrounding them provides protection against predators, and the tall branches of the trees surrounding the camp give them a place to rest if flooding happens.Lochclan cats respect their waters greatly, often wading in small ponds and shallow creeks for fun. They also are the most active as the sun goes down, finding comfort in the darkness of their territory at night. Lochclan cats claim that the stars are the clearest in their territory.Their altar is a stone cat underneath a gazebo, it lies outside of their clan. They will often leave pretty rocks and trinkets in front of it as offerings. Younger cats will refer to the cat as “Mossystar”, while Warriors may call it Mosspelt.Lochclan cats are mysterious, cryptic and philosophical. They are usually quiet yet empathetic, understanding each other with little words. These cats are strong, usually with dark pelt colors to blend in with the shadows of their forests. However, light colored cats are not rare and are known to roll in mud when they need to be stealthy. Lochclan cats are muscular, the biggest cats of the three clans. They do not come across twolegs often, and can be curious when one comes through their territory. Loners are the most common, passing through the clan. Lochclan welcomes them, but will not let them come and go without at least hunting for the clan alongside the warriors unless it is an older cat or a monarch. This results in many loners staying permanently.Lochclan cats are the most territorial and will react the worst to trespassing or conflict with the other clans. These are prideful cats, but not overly malicious. Getting in a fight with a cat from this clan is something you ought to be prepared for, lest you may get more injured than expected.Their names are deeper in meaning, going further than just a cat’s appearance. Lochclan cats can be named from their potential for greatness, their virtues, and more.

Lochclan Roles

LeaderThe leader of Lochclan is a singular cat that has risen through the ranks, having been a warrior, then deputy. This is a lifelong position, and the leader will not stop being leader until they have either died, stepped down, or been overthrown. Leaders will have duties such as making announcements, naming warriors, and assigning apprentices to their mentors. To become a leader of Lochclan, you must be willing to sacrifice yourself for your clan. Because of this, it is tradition for the Lochclan leader to die as they receive their 9 lives. Typically they're drowned. Starclan won't give them their lives if they don't show their commitment to the role.DeputyThe deputy of Lochclan is a singular cat that will become leader once the previous one steps down for any reason. Healers are not required to be very spiritual as Starclan will send prophecies to both them and the Undertaker.Healers of all clans will meet every halfmoon at the Sacred Cave.UndertakerThe Undertaker of Lochclan is a singular cat that is meant to serve under the will of Shade’s Wing. This is not a required trait, legends simply believe an all-black cat has received Starclan’s “blessing” and will thrive in the role.Undertakers of all clans will meet every new moon at the Stone Garden.WarriorsWarriors of Lochclan are tasked with the typical responsibilities of a warrior, such as hunting, patrolling, fighting and guarding their clan territory. Warriors are expected to have a vague knowledge of herbs to assist their healers. Divination is sacred in Lochclan and all warriors are expected to know how to do it. They are given stones to use as their divination sets when they become a warrior. These pebbles are often taken from their waters, and are collected by the apprentices.MonarchsThe Monarchs of Lochclan are cats that are expecting or nursing kits. They are treated with respect as they are bringing in a new generation and are checked in on by the deputy. No matter if it is their kit, they are expected to take care of all the nursery while they are staying there.ApprenticesAn Apprentice of Lochclan is any cat above the age of six moons that is training for a higher role. They may be training to become a Warrior or Healer. Apprentices collect pebbles for divination sets in the creeks.EldersThe Elders of Lochclan are any retired Warrior, Leader, or Monarch. When it is an elder’s time, they will spend their last moments in the waters of the rivers so the currents can relax them.

Lochclan Extras

Lochclan is not particularly secular like Cloverclan, but they do not worship any specific cats like Knollclan. They have a middle-of-the-road approach to their practices, leaving offerings to their altar and praying that Starclan will guide them with their divination. They believe heavily in signs from Starclan. The cats of the clan are observant. They are not afraid of the dark, as they believe it to be the watchful eye of Shade’s Wing. Lochclan cats have the most positive relationship with Shade’s Wing, often having a “memento mori” way of viewing death. They use smooth pebbles in their divination, marking them with simple symbols that look like scratch marks. Every warrior has a set, even if they simply keep them in their nest. There isn’t a specific pelt color or pattern that they view as lucky. They do, however, get very curious about “purebred” patterns that are uncommon in wild cats. Lochclan cats will typically find such uniqueness pretty. There is also less colorful fauna in Lochclan, and going through Cloverclan’s territory can be a little overwhelming.Swimming is a very valued trait as the currents of the rivers can be very dangerous for a small cat or even a loner who has never swam. This is typically the first thing taught to apprentices after the basics of training.Lochclan cats are seen as mysterious and sometimes even scary. Knollclan cats will be wary but friendly with them. Cloverclan cats and Lochclan cats have the most tendencies for scuffles on their border, however.
